Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jakarta Police have launched an investigation into YouTuber Muhammad Jannah, better known as Bigmo, over allegations that he involved minors in promoting vape liquid during a livestream.
Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Budi Hermanto said investigators will first question the complainant as part of the preliminary inquiry.
“The case is still at the complaint stage. We are conducting an investigation and will invite the complainant for clarification,” Budi told reporters on Monday.
The complaint accuses Bigmo of inviting underage children to promote nicotine-containing vape products during a live broadcast.
The case has also drawn attention from Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, who condemned any content that exploits children to promote age-restricted products.
“Children must be protected from all forms of exploitation in the digital space,” Meutya said in a statement on Sunday. “Content involving children to promote vape products clearly contradicts the spirit of child protection and should have no place on digital platforms.”
Following the public backlash, Bigmo uploaded an apology video on his Niceguymo YouTube channel.
“I sincerely apologize for my actions and statements, which caused public concern over the past few days,” he said. “I acknowledge that what I did was wrong and cannot be justified.”
Bigmo also admitted that nicotine products are legally intended only for adults. He said he should have understood his responsibilities as a content creator and exercised greater caution in the material he shared publicly.
Police have not announced whether any criminal charges will be filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
