Jakarta, ThedailyID — Cambodia captain Hul Kim Huy has expressed full confidence ahead of his team’s 2026 AFF Cup match against Indonesia, saying his side believes it can secure an upset despite facing one of the tournament favourites.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Sunday, July 26, the goalkeeper said Cambodia would enter the game with only one objective.
“Whatever happens, our goal is to win. We are 200% confident we can do it,” Kim Huy said.
Kim Huy acknowledged Indonesia’s strength and the advantage of playing at home. However, he insisted his teammates remained determined to claim all three points.
“Everyone knows how strong the Indonesia national team is. We understand they are one of the strongest teams in this group, but our players really want to win,” he said.
History, however, heavily favours Indonesia.
The two nations have met 18 times, with Indonesia winning 17 matches and drawing one. Indonesia has also scored 80 goals against Cambodia across those meetings.
Cambodia heads into the fixture after opening its AFF Cup campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Singapore. Singapore scored the winning goal during stoppage time.
Indonesia and Cambodia will meet at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor Regency on Monday, July 27, with kick-off scheduled for 8:30 p.m. WIB.
Indonesia also has a strong record in opening AFF Cup matches. The Garuda has lost only once in its first match of the tournament, with Thailand remaining the only team to defeat Indonesia in an AFF Cup opener.
