Jakarta, ThedailyID — A heated confrontation broke out between Spain and Argentina players after the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in New York on July 19, with Nahuel Molina at the center of the incident.
Spain’s players rushed onto the field to celebrate their 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina. Meanwhile, several Argentine players remained on the pitch, reflecting on the defeat.
The tension began when Rodri, who had already been substituted, ran onto the field to celebrate with his teammates.
As Rodri passed by, Molina appeared to strike him in the body. Rodri immediately turned around and confronted the Argentine defender.
Moments later, Eric Garcia stepped in to support Rodri.
However, Leandro Paredes joined the confrontation and grabbed Garcia by the neck, escalating the situation.
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni quickly entered the field to calm both teams.
Nevertheless, the confrontation continued as more players gathered around the incident.
Spain midfielder Gavi also became involved after approaching Paredes. During the scuffle, Gavi fell to the ground and appeared to receive a blow from the Argentine midfielder.
As a result, the altercation grew before officials and team staff managed to restore order.
Earlier in the match, Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in the 106th minute, securing Spain’s first FIFA World Cup title since 2010.
