Jakarta, ThedailyID — Saudi Arabia and Iraq have reaffirmed that neither country will allow its territory to be used in the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran.
The two governments stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty, maintaining good neighborly relations, and rejecting any threat to regional security, according to Anadolu Agency.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein delivered the message during a joint meeting with senior officials from both countries.
The ministers reviewed bilateral ties and explored ways to strengthen cooperation. They also discussed regional developments and other issues of mutual concern.
Both sides reiterated the need to respect sovereignty, avoid interference in domestic affairs, and prevent any country from using another nation’s territory to threaten regional stability.
Meanwhile, Iraq reaffirmed that it would not allow its territory or airspace to launch attacks against Saudi Arabia, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members, or other regional states.
Saudi Arabia also renewed its support for Iraq’s security and stability. In addition, Riyadh pledged to expand bilateral coordination and cooperation to promote shared interests and regional peace.
Notably, Iran did not target either Saudi Arabia or Iraq during its recent retaliatory strikes on US military facilities across the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia also maintains close defense ties with Pakistan, including a recently signed Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement (SMDA).
Meanwhile, Pakistan has played an active role in diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier, Islamabad deployed fighter jets and support aircraft to Saudi Arabia under the defense pact to strengthen the kingdom’s security.
According to EurAsian Times, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Islamabad warned Tehran about the mutual defense agreement. He said the move aimed to prevent further attacks on Saudi territory.
