Haaland Reveals Secret Behind Norway's Stunning World Cup Win Over Brazil

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Erling Haaland credited his focus and self-belief after scoring twice to lead Norway past Brazil with a 2-1 victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 16 on Monday.

Playing at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the Manchester City striker scored with a header in the 79th minute before adding the winner with his left foot in the 90th minute. Neymar scored Brazil’s only goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

After the match, Haaland said he always believes chances will come if he remains patient throughout the game.

“Usually it’s like that. If I get one or two chances, they usually end in goals,” Haaland told FIFA.

“I don’t know exactly how I do it, but that’s how it works for me. The key is to stay focused.”

Moreover, the 25-year-old said he constantly reminds himself that opportunities will arrive during the match.

“I tell myself the chance will come. Then I usually know whether I’ll score or not,” he added.

Haaland also described his goalscoring ability as a gift from God. According to him, that belief gives him confidence even in difficult situations.

Meanwhile, the Norway captain hopes the team’s impressive World Cup campaign will inspire the next generation of footballers in his country.

“We keep moving forward. I hope every young person watching this interview will one day see playing for Norway as the proudest thing they can do. It’s absolutely incredible,” Haaland said.

Next, Norway will face either Mexico or England in the quarterfinals on July 11 in Miami as they continue their remarkable World Cup run.
