Jakarta, ThedailyID — The United States secured its place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0, becoming the 10th nation to qualify for the knockout stage.
The Americans took the lead just before halftime through Folarin Balogun, who scored in the 45th minute. However, the striker received a red card in the 64th minute, forcing the hosts to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the United States extended its lead late in the second half. Malik Tillman curled a free kick into the net in the 82nd minute to seal the victory.
Earlier in the day, England and Belgium also booked their places in the Round of 16 after dramatic comeback wins.
England recovered from a 1-0 deficit against DR Congo. Captain Harry Kane scored twice during the final 15 minutes to secure a 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, Belgium produced one of the tournament’s most remarkable comebacks against Senegal.
The Red Devils trailed 2-0 with only five minutes remaining in regulation time. However, goals from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans forced extra time.
Belgium completed the turnaround in stoppage time of extra time. Tielemans converted a penalty to give his team a dramatic 3-2 victory.
As a result, 10 nations have now secured their places in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16.
