Jakarta, ThedailyID — U.S. President Donald Trump has urged gasoline retailers across the United States to immediately lower fuel prices, warning there would be “big problems” if they failed to comply.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump called on gas station operators to reduce prices and accused some retailers of keeping prices unnecessarily high despite changes in the energy market.
“Gasoline retailers must lower your prices, now,” Trump wrote on Monday.
He also warned retailers against manipulating prices, saying such practices would violate the law.
“There will be no price manipulation, which is totally illegal,” Trump said.
Trump urged retailers to target gasoline prices of around US$2.50 per gallon, arguing that American consumers should benefit from lower energy costs.
“If the retailers don’t do this, big problems will arise,” he wrote. “Do what you know is right—lower your prices for our great American people.”
The president also singled out California, where fuel prices remain among the highest in the country, and called on state officials to reduce gasoline taxes.
According to Trump, fuel taxes in California have become excessively high and place an unnecessary burden on drivers.
“Soon the tax will be higher than the product itself, and the United States will not tolerate it,” Trump wrote. He added that California residents should no longer have to bear what he described as unreasonable taxes.
Trump has frequently criticized California’s Democratic leadership, particularly Governor Gavin Newsom, over energy, environmental, and tax policies. Newsom, in turn, has repeatedly opposed several of Trump’s domestic policy initiatives, making California a frequent target of the president’s public remarks.
Trump’s latest comments come as fuel prices remain a politically sensitive issue in the United States. Gasoline prices often influence consumer inflation, household spending, and public approval of the federal government, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty.
