Jakarta, ThedailyID – Marc Marquez opened the MotoGP Czech Grand Prix 2026 weekend in dominant fashion after setting the fastest time during the first free practice (FP1) session on Friday. Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo finished second, while several championship contenders remained inside the top 10.
The six-time MotoGP world champion posted a best lap of 1:52.105 at the Brno Circuit. As a result, he edged Quartararo by 0.158 seconds in the opening session.
Quartararo showed strong pace throughout FP1 and stayed close to Marquez. However, he could not improve enough during the closing minutes to claim the fastest lap.
Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta secured third place after another competitive session. The KTM rider continued his solid form and remained within striking distance of the front runners.
Francesco Bagnaia finished fourth, while Marco Bezzecchi completed the top five. Both riders gathered valuable data ahead of the afternoon practice session.
Further down the order, Maverick Viñales, Joan Mir, Alex Marquez, Brad Binder, and Franco Morbidelli rounded out the top 10.
Several riders struggled to match the leading pace during the session. Even so, teams are expected to make setup adjustments before Practice, where riders will compete for direct qualification into Q2.
MotoGP returns to Brno for the first time in several years. Therefore, teams spent much of FP1 adapting to the resurfaced circuit and evaluating tire performance ahead of the weekend. According to the session results, Marc Marquez adapted quickest and entered the remainder of the weekend as the rider to beat.
