Jakarta, ThedailyID — Authorities in South Sumatra have detained the deputy regent of Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI) Regency and a senior local government official in connection with an alleged project bribery case.
The deputy regent, identified by the initials IT, was secured at his official residence. Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Works Agency, identified as A, was detained in Palembang.
South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office Chief Ketut Sumedana confirmed the operation on Wednesday, June 3.
He said both officials were being transported to the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office for further questioning.
“Both individuals have been secured. They are currently on their way to the prosecutor’s office for further examination,” Ketut said.
According to prosecutors, the detentions are linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged project fee bribery.
However, authorities have not disclosed which government projects are under investigation.
Ketut said investigators are still gathering evidence and examining the case.
“We are still conducting a deeper investigation. The preliminary allegation involves project-related bribery fees,” he said.
The prosecutor’s office has not announced any suspect status for the two officials.
Investigators are expected to provide additional details after the examination process is completed.
The case adds to a series of corruption investigations involving regional government officials across Indonesia in recent months.
