Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Jakarta Provincial Government transformed the iconic Bundaran HI area into a glowing public space through the “Illumination of Jakarta: Glow of Peace” festival for Waisak 2026.
The festival runs from May 28 to June 1. It celebrates Waisak 2570 BE while promoting messages of peace, tolerance, and diversity across the capital.
Thousands of residents visited the area to enjoy large-scale light installations, Buddhist-themed decorations, and cultural performances. The event also features giant Buddha ornaments, Borobudur-inspired stupa replicas, and colorful illumination displays surrounding the landmark.
The Jakarta administration organized the festival in collaboration with Buddhist organizations, including WALUBI and Permabudhi. The event aims to strengthen harmony among Jakarta’s diverse communities.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno attended the event and described it as a symbol of inclusivity and togetherness.
According to Rano, a great city is not only measured by its skyscrapers. He said it should also reflect respect, tolerance, and solidarity among its residents.
The festival also attracted tourists from outside Jakarta. Many visitors gathered around the main pool area to take photos of the Sacred Buddha Illumination installation, which became one of the event’s biggest attractions.
In addition, organizers installed interactive light decorations along pedestrian pathways around the area. As a result, visitors arriving through MRT stations and TransJakarta stops could experience the displays throughout the district.
The Skydeck viewing areas near the Bundaran HI and Tosari stations also became popular spots for visitors seeking panoramic views of the illuminated festival grounds.
The event remains open to the public free of charge until June 1. Through Glow of Peace, Jakarta hopes to reinforce its image as a global city that embraces cultural diversity and religious harmony.
