Cilegon, ThedailyID— PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) is strengthening its position as a world-leading geothermal producer by supporting the Green Terminal Tanjung Sekong initiative. The commitment was marked by the launch of the ESG Initiative Kick Off at the LPG Terminal Tanjung Sekong in Cilegon, Banten. Through this involvement, PGE aims to provide low-emission geothermal energy solutions to support the sustainability of Indonesia’s strategic energy infrastructure.

The kick-off event was attended by senior executives from across the Pertamina Group, including leaders from PT Pertamina (Persero), PT Pertamina Energy Terminal, PT Pertamina International Shipping, PT Elnusa Petrofin, and PGE. Their presence reflected cross-entity cooperation within the group to accelerate sustainability programs in the national energy sector.

As part of the initiative, PGE is contributing through the development of geothermal-based green hydrogen sourced from the Ulubelu geothermal working area in Lampung. The green hydrogen project is being developed as a pilot program to support a low-carbon power generation system at the Tanjung Sekong Terminal. The project targets a gradual increase in low-carbon electricity use to around 25 percent of the terminal’s operational power needs.

PGE President Director Ahmad Yani said the company’s participation represents a concrete step in integrating geothermal energy into the downstream energy value chain. He emphasized that geothermal resources play a strategic role in supporting the energy transition by providing a reliable and sustainable clean energy source.

According to Ahmad Yani, the development of geothermal-based green hydrogen allows PGE to expand geothermal utilization beyond electricity generation. The approach is designed to create added value and support the application of low-carbon energy in key energy facilities, while promoting end-to-end geothermal innovation.

The integration of geothermal energy into terminal operations is part of broader collaboration within the Pertamina Group to support decarbonization efforts and reduce emissions from operational electricity use. The initiative also serves as a model for renewable energy adoption that can be replicated in other strategic energy facilities.

The LPG Terminal Tanjung Sekong, managed by PT Pertamina Energy Terminal, is one of Indonesia’s largest LPG terminals. With a storage capacity of 98,000 metric tons and the ability to serve vessels of up to 65,000 deadweight tonnage, the facility supplies around 35–40 percent of national LPG demand. Through its support for the Green Terminal project, PGE reaffirmed its commitment to advancing end-to-end geothermal utilization, including green hydrogen innovation, in line with Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2060 target.
