Jakarta, ThedailyID — Ukraine launched a large-scale drone assault on Russia using around 500 drones, marking one of the biggest aerial attacks since the war began.
Russian authorities said the attack caused explosions and disruptions in several regions, including Moscow, where at least three people reportedly died.
Officials also reported damage to residential buildings and infrastructure following the overnight assault.
Russia’s defense ministry claimed air defense systems intercepted many of the drones before they reached key targets. However, several drones still managed to strike populated areas.
Videos shared on social media showed fires, smoke, and emergency crews responding to damaged locations across multiple cities.
The attack further intensified tensions between both countries as the conflict continues entering another year with no clear resolution.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials did not immediately provide detailed comments regarding the operation.
Military analysts said drone warfare has become increasingly important throughout the Russia-Ukraine war because both sides continue targeting logistics, military infrastructure, and strategic facilities far from the front line.
The large-scale assault also highlighted how low-cost drone technology continues reshaping modern warfare and air defense strategies.
Several airports in Russia temporarily suspended operations due to security concerns during the attack.
Regional authorities additionally urged residents to remain alert as emergency teams continued assessing the damage.
