Jakarta, ThedailyID — After adding roughly two million new customers in 2025, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) is set to further expand its customer base in 2026 through a strategic collaboration with Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM). The partnership is expected to encourage around 300,000 ultra-micro customers to open BSI savings accounts, particularly in Aceh.

The cooperation is designed to strengthen Islamic financial inclusion in the MSME sector while supporting broader inclusive economic development. Under the initial phase of the program, BSI will provide savings and basic banking services to approximately 300,000 ultra-micro entrepreneurs in Aceh through integration with PNM’s customer network.

Aceh was selected as the pilot region in line with BSI’s commitment to reinforcing the Islamic financial ecosystem there, where the bank holds a dominant presence. The initiative is viewed as a continuation of efforts to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of MSMEs, a segment that plays a significant role in driving regional economic growth.

Anton Sukarna, BSI’s Director of Sales and Distribution, said the bank remains focused on expanding Islamic financial inclusion across all segments, particularly MSMEs. He noted that this strategy has proven effective, citing BSI’s MSME financing growth, which reached Rp52.30 trillion in 2025.

He added that BSI continues to strengthen MSME development through mentoring and training programs at its BSI UMKM Centres, which have supported more than 4,900 assisted businesses. These initiatives are expected to generate new employment opportunities, while the new savings accounts will serve as an entry point for more transparent and structured financial management, helping MSMEs become more bankable.

As of December 2025, BSI recorded total third-party funds of Rp380 trillion, marking a 16.20% year-on-year increase, with low-cost funds accounting for 61.62% or about Rp234 trillion. The partnership with PNM aims to build a more integrated banking service system, simplifying account opening, financial transactions, and access to Sharia-compliant banking facilities tailored to ultra-micro customers.

Beyond operational integration, the collaboration is expected to deliver tangible benefits for ultra-micro entrepreneurs by widening access to formal financial services, expanding financing opportunities, and strengthening long-term business management capabilities. The program aligns with PNM’s broader mission to empower grassroots economic actors by improving access to capital, mentorship, and capacity-building programs for small businesses across Indonesia.
