Jakarta, ThedailyID — A new lawsuit targets Joko Widodo over his university diploma, as proceedings begin at the Solo District Court.
Sigit Pratomo, a lawyer from Klaten, Central Java, filed the civil case. He is also an alumnus of Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Law. The court registered the case under number 101/Pdt.G/2026/PN Skt.
In his filing, Sigit named the university as co-defendant I and Polda Metro Jaya as co-defendant II. He argued that Jokowi violated the law by not attending previous hearings and by not showing his original diploma in public or in court.
The court held the first hearing on May 5. Judge Bayu Soho Rahardjo led the session, alongside Dian Erdianto and Ledis Meriana Bakara. However, none of the principals attended, and their legal teams represented them instead. Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya did not appear and gave no explanation.
Therefore, the court will summon the absent party again at the next hearing.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Dekka Ajeng Maharasri clarified the focus of the lawsuit. She said the case does not question the authenticity of the diploma. Instead, it seeks to require Jokowi to appear in court and present the document.
“Our claim does not focus on whether the diploma is authentic. We want him to appear in court and show it,” she said.
However, Jokowi’s legal representative, YB Irpan, rejected the claim. He said no legal ruling requires Jokowi to present the diploma. Therefore, he considers the lawsuit baseless.
In addition, Irpan said Jokowi respects the legal process. He also noted that the lawsuit does not contain statements that attack the president’s personal honor.
